Start as a fool

Yes, I know, does the world really need another blog? Probably not. But then when I start thinking about whether the world needs my blog, I could just as easily start asking: Does the world really need me? Can it do without me? And, of course, yes, it probably can do without me – but then, it can just as well do with me, if you know what I mean.

Plus, I have been doing some research, and it turns out that approximately ten percent of the world’s problems have resulted from the lack of my blog. Shocking, I know. How has the news media managed to miss this fact? I blame this – as I do all things – on Ted Turner (and Rip Taylor).

Now that I have started this blog, you may ask: Will the world get ten percent better now? Unfortunately, it probably will not, at least not right away. What you will most likely see is an initial worsening of the world’s situation, in which you, the reader, will wonder why God, the Universe, Force or Secret has denied you this blog for so long. You will lose confidence in your existence. You will comfort yourself with chocolate-chip cookies, ice cream, and lightly sautéed fishsticks served with a dollop of ketchup.

Then, after this period of anguish, the world will start to get better, but in a way you can’t really put your finger on. You’ll find yourself noticing that you are always able to find a clean pair of socks when you need them, or that you never incorrectly judge when a store-bought frozen lasagne is ready to come out of the oven. Your socks and your lasagne will be perfect every time. And you will ask yourself, “Didn’t these good things start happening to me when I started reading that blog? Why am I no longer craving fishsticks and ketchup as much as I used to?” And the answer will be right here, in this blog. Diminishing ten percent of the world’s problems one entry at a time, in ways you can’t quite perceive.
